The first Symposium Global Challenges for Sustainable Development (GCSD’2010) will be held in Rennes, FRANCE
from February 25 to February 26, 2010.
It inaugurates a periodic of scientific symposia with alternating places and themes among institutions of higher education and research of the European University in Brittany and the state of Saxony. The strategic objective is to strengthen the position of both regions in the European Research Area in order to increase access to the European labels on common projects and secondly, to develop the international mobility of researchers. GCSD’2010 will provide an international forum for reporting progress and recent developments in Sustainable Chemistry and Related Areas.
The programme will include invited talks, contributed oral and poster presentations and an interactive round table discussion. A Ph.D. student forum will be held as a poster session, its purpose is to offer an opportunity for students to discuss their thesis and research work with people of the related science community.

A scientific cooperation institution for research, technology transfer and innovation, and doctoral studies in Brittany
The UEB brings together Brittany’s universities, grandes écoles, university teaching hospitals, and research organisations. This officially-designated ‘Pôle de Recherche et d’Enseignement Supérieur’ (PRES – research and higher education cluster) manages scientific cooperation activities on behalf of its member institutions. With 72,000 students and over 6,000 teaching and non-teaching staff, the UEB is a scientific hub which is European in scale.
